The National Car Test (NCT) is a preventative road safety measure that ensures vehicles using Irish roads are subject to a basic safety check at regular intervals. And sure enough, we all hate the thoughts of it. Drop into us for your NCT check or an NCT service.
As you will see there are quite a lot of things you need to have in order on the day you arrive at the test centre. A lot of these checks can be carried out by yourself however, the things you cannot see are often the things that get people caught out. Light calibration for example, this is a very common fail. Then there’s the other frequent fail stuff like pads, discs, leaks underneath etc.
We recommend having your car checked with us at least a couple of weeks before the test date.
YOUR NCT CHECKLIST
1] Your car has adequate oil and water in it.
2] The boot is empty and your vehicle is clear of valuables and personal your belongings.
3] The vehicle is clean (especially the underbody).
4] The hubcaps are removed (only in the case where wheel nuts are not visible) and the tyres are at the correct pressure.
5] The engine is in a good condition and is fit to be tested eg: timing belt. You will be asked to sign a disclaimer at the test centre.
6] Seat belts and clips are all fully visible (including the rear).
7] Lights are in proper working order
8] You will need your Vehicle Registration Book, Registration Certificate or Licensing cert when you arrive at the centre.
9] You need to bring identification (driving licence) with you on the day of the test.
The person who brings the car for inspection brings their identification with them (driving licence) as failure to provide the required identification will result in the vehicle not being issued an NCT certificate at the time of testing
10] You have your test fee of €55.00, plus any cancellation fee (if applicable) payable by cash, laser card and all major credit cards (excluding American Express).
11] Your vehicle is at a normal operating temperature before arriving at the test centre for inspection
12. Your registration plates comply with current regulations
